A new translation & adaptation of Strindberg’s 'Miss Julie' set in an elite Scottish university.
Lady J, daughter of the head of the University and fellow at St Duncan’s College, bows out of a formal Burns Night dinner in favor of the staff's party. A risqué game between her and her father’s butler reveals a deep chasm in Lady J’s inner world, and chinks in his armour, as his hard-working fiancé sleeps.
As the night goes on, the intoxicating mix of Ceilidh dancing, whiskey, poetry, and forbidden fruit provides the perfect conditions for sins to manifest, threatening the reputations and traditions at the heart of the seven-hundred-year-old institution.
Dr. Lewis Webb translates Strindberg’s 'Miss Julie' from Swedish into English in this new adaptation by Christina James, exploring the unconscious dynamics of sex and class.
This production is recommended for ages 15+.
