Vespetta, a lively and determined chambermaid, is eager to escape the uncertainty of servitude. She finds work with Pimpinone, a wealthy but unrefined homeowner, who hires her to clean up after his Christmas party. However, when Pimpinone fails to treat her with the respect she deserves, Vespetta threatens to leave. Desperate to keep her, he showers her with gifts and ultimately convinces her to marry him.

Now bound in matrimony and raising a child together, Vespetta begins to feel stifled by her role as Pimpinone’s wife. After their son’s birthday party, she decides to reclaim her independence. Though initially resistant, Pimpinone ultimately embraces Vespetta’s newfound confidence, realizing that his love for her is stronger than tradition.
