Direction from Samantha Pears and Elsa Strachan is pretty unimaginative, failing to equal the unquestionable drama of the story. Golby and West have taken a brave leap in attempting to set a musical against such a traumatic backdrop ... However, it’s not a wholly successful attempt ... something that isn’t helped by an uneven sound quality and production values.

It isn’t necessarily a poor idea to make a musical about a harrowing subject ... but it would be encouraging to feel the writers’ research had gone beyond watching the Netflix documentary that provided their initial inspiration.
