A 23-year-old buys a derelict cinema for £1 and turns it into a legendary music venue.
Brixton Calling is inspired by Simon Parkes’ memoir Live at the Brixton Academy, telling the extraordinary true story of how a 23-year-old bought a derelict cinema for £1 in 1983, transformed it into The Academy, and built a world-renowned music venue. Directed by Bronagh Lagan, known for her work on the Olivier-nominated Cruise, this energetic production is brought to life with a vibrant live soundtrack featuring reggae, punk, rock, and rave music. Supported by Arts Council England, the show celebrates the cultural spirit of Brixton and its musical legacy.
