As storms grow more severe, bringing rain so intense that fish fall from the sky, an old belief persists: the ringing of bells can drive away thunder and lightning. This perilous duty now lies with lifelong friends Clement and Aspinall. As the weather escalates, the young men start to doubt their survival through the night. With their faith in tradition waning, they realize their unwavering belief is only in each other.
Daisy Hall's debut play, both comic and deeply moving, was a finalist for the 2024 Women's Prize for Playwriting. Directed by Jessica Lazar, "Bellringers" comes to Hampstead Downstairs following its run at Roundabout, Edinburgh Festival 2024.
