A gripping, interactive play exploring freedom, choice, and the fallout of a sister’s strike.
Antigone [on strike] is an interactive play set in a media studio where audience members vote to shape the story’s outcome. It follows Esmeh, who, after joining the Islamic State at 14, now finds herself stranded in a refugee camp with her UK citizenship revoked. Her sister Antiya, in a bid to bring her home, begins a hunger strike that sparks a media storm, entangling the Home Secretary's family in a risky PR battle. Inspired by Sophocles' Antigone and the real-life stories of young women dubbed 'ISIS Brides,' the play examines how behavior-predicting technologies impact freedom of choice and democracy. Developed through student workshops in East London, it’s a thought-provoking, immersive theatre experience.
