The Theater for the New City's annual free summer street theater show is a rip-roaring operetta that transforms three everyday New Yorkers into community activists.
An election-season musical about three disparate New Yorkers: an irascible, high-strung grandmother who is sure that the world is doomed; an eager-to-vote, right-wing, African-American conservative; and a survivor of the 2008 Great Recession who works 12 hours a day at three part-time jobs to make ends meet. In this fast-paced show, these unlikely heroes are taken on time-traveling tour through the struggles of American history, from Shay's Rebellion to slave rebellions to the 60's draft card burnings to Occupy Wall Street. This free show is performed outdoors at various locations throughout the five boroughs. Check out the show's official website for the complete schedule.
