Mark Rothko, an acclaimed abstract expressionist painter, has been awarded the largest art commission ever to create a set of murals for the Four Seasons restaurant in New York. Over the course of two captivating years, Rothko and his young assistant Ken toil away in his studio on Bowery to bring this project to life. However, as Ken gains confidence and begins to challenge Rothko, the artist grapples with the possibility that his greatest achievement could also be his downfall.
