A dynamic exploration of women's lives through history, blending theater, movement, and humor.
Inspired by When God Was a Woman by Merlin Stone, Lists of Promise is a striking theatrical work created by Ildiko Nemeth and Lisa Giobbi. Combining classic theater with ungrounded aerial movement, this performance follows a group of women across different eras and social landscapes, using historical records and lists—both ordinary and extraordinary—as a lens to examine their lives.
Told through a series of interconnected vignettes, the nine-woman cast weaves together moments of daily life and imaginative storytelling, blending humor with deep reflection. Drawing from historical texts and personal anecdotes, Lists of Promise questions the expectations placed on women, exposing the absurd, tragic, and ironic truths that shape their existence. Through movement and narrative, the piece explores shared consciousness, community, and the weight of history in defining women’s roles across time.
