A multimedia journey through the bold legacy and political battles of the Federal Theatre Project.
It CAN Happen Here! is an immersive multimedia experience that interweaves three compelling narratives: the groundbreaking impact of the Federal Theatre Project, which provided jobs to tens of thousands of artists across all theatrical genres and brought performances to communities nationwide; the visionary leadership of Hallie Flanagan, whose innovative storytelling and artistic direction shaped some of the most influential productions of the era; and the far-reaching political consequences, including the project’s role in breaking racial and social barriers, as well as the backlash it faced from the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC).
The production highlights how the government’s scrutiny of theatre and the arts during that time continues to echo in the present day.
