A play that pays tribute to Jesús Colón, a chronicler of the Puerto Rican migration experience.
The Red Rose honors Jesús Colón, Afro/Black Puerto Rican writer and activist. He arrived in New York City as a stowaway in 1917, eventually becoming a significant chronicler of the Puerto Rican migrant journey. The play recounts his pivotal encounter with FBI agent Mildred Blauvelt and their consequential confrontation at the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) in 1959.
