Tchaikovsky's haunting thriller "The Queen of Spades" returns to the Metropolitan Opera, set in Tsarist Russia, with soprano Sonya Yoncheva in her highly anticipated debut as Lisa, entangled in a fatal romance with the gambling-obsessed officer Hermann, portrayed by tenor Brian Jagde, also making his role debut. The production also features baritone Igor Golovatenko reprising his poignant portrayal of Lisa's fiancé, Prince Yeletsky, alongside mezzo-soprano Violeta Urmana as the ghostly Countess and baritone Alexey Markov as Count Tomsky, all under the baton of Keri-Lynn Wilson conducting the sweeping score.
