A couple renovates a home in a gentrifying neighborhood, sparking debates on community and change.
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright James Ijames delves into gentrification and the rising cost of the American dream in his incisive and humorous new play, "Good Bones." Aisha, given an opportunity to revitalize the struggling neighborhood she grew up in, and her chef husband, Travis, buy and begin renovating a charming old house. Renovations, however, are costly and stressful—both for the buildings and the surrounding communities. Aisha's contractor, Earl, who also grew up in the area, has memories of more than just dangerous streets and dilapidated homes. As their professional relationship intensifies into a heated debate over who has the right to stay and who must leave, Aisha confronts the choices she's made to get ahead and the complex, emotional ghosts that inhabit her dreams and her dream house.
