Lope de Vega's classic play about a woman's revolt against a corrupt society, presented by TFANA.
Spanish Golden Age writer Lope de Vega's masterwork, Fuente Ovejuna, will mark the playwright's debut production at Theatre for a New Audience. The 1612 play is an eerily contemporary and prescient drama by history’s most prolific dramatist.
The play tells the story of a violent peasant uprising against an aristocratic lord who assaults socially powerless women without recourse and illuminates the heroism of one outstanding woman who dared to lead. The heroine Laurencia’s brave stand speaks to the future movements for systemic change and individual rights that would follow.
