About the Show

Vital Theatre presents this new musical about a young talented fashion designer in middle school and her attempt to blend in, based on the book of the same name.

MacKenzie "Mickey" Williams is the new student at FAB Middle School (The Fashion Academy of Brooklyn), a training ground for future fashion designers. But her "out of the box" thinking and colorful style make her a “walking Fashion Don’t.” So, in order to fit in, Mickey decides it’s time for a major makeover. The new, trendy “Kenzie” is able to blend in like a true fashionista. But will gaining acceptance come at the price of losing herself?

"The show's book may cover well-trod kiddie-show ground, but the music and lyrics make up for it with bouncy rhythms and clever themes...The kids in the audience loved every minute, as evidenced by their staying in their seats and clapping along the entire time...It is marketed as being for children ages 7 and up, though it seems appropriate even for preschoolers, with its bright colors and dance-party music."
