Time Out New York
August 19th, 2016

"Though it's admirable that Zucker doesn't offer up any easy answers, couldn't she give us a coherent story?...Whether playing Mimi or the myriad other characters who flit in and out of the nonlinear narrative, Ipp is consistently captivating. But the barrage of words and conflicting ideas stymies any emotional connection to the material. Like a virtual friend who can't shut up about the upcoming election, this is one 'Thread' you'll want to unfollow."

Theatre is Easy

“While the concept and stated intentions of writer-director Elena Zucker's play are intriguing, the through line and main theme are lost in the wide-ranging, surreal, and disconnected places that the character goes. There are entire intense, emotionally charged monologues that I struggled to find relevance and meaning in. At times, seeing ‘Thread’ is like watching a person relive a dream...Despite the confusion that ‘Thread’ can produce, Ipp’s performance is interesting and committed.”

NY Theatre Guide
August 20th, 2016

"This is a complex cerebral journey that does require extreme concentration to follow the sidebars and roller-coaster thoughts that whip past–but it is deeply satisfying when you start to put all of the pieces together. Ipp is a sensational, fearless performer. She is a towering energy that owns the space with a magnetic presence...Zucker has brought her thoughts to life through robust, energetic staging and well-crafted moments of emotional depth."

For a previous production

"Zucker is a frighteningly intelligent playwright. Her use of a thoroughly modern incarnation of novelty-attracted narcissism to explore Jewish experience across time and cultures is astoundingly ambitious, and for the audience that is up for the challenge, it pays off...An intense production, showcasing the abilities of writer and actor...For dazzling drama interwoven with suspense, history, politics and self-identity, 'Thread' is worth unravelling for yourself."
